Gutierrez Statement on October Employment Report
WASHINGTON—Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez today released the following statement on the October employment report:
“Today's drop in the unemployment rate once again demonstrates the underlying strength of our economy. We have been able to not only withstand the economic impact of devastating hurricanes and high energy prices, but also grow the economy and create new jobs,” Gutierrez said.
“Since October of last year, payrolls have increased by 1.9 million. GDP this quarter is at 3.8 percent. The President's pro-growth policies are working and we must resist calls to raise taxes while making strides toward deficit reduction so that job creation and economic growth can continue.”
