Gutierrez: GDP Report Shows Sustainable Economic Growth
WASHINGTON—Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez today released the following statement on the revised third quarter real gross domestic product (GDP) report, which showed that the American economy grew at 2.2 percent in the third quarter of 2006:
"President Bush’s pro-growth policies are working and America has the fundamentals to maintain a healthy and growing economy. Today’s GDP report shows that the U.S. economy is growing at a healthy, sustainable rate. As the holiday shopping season gets underway, the economy is growing, unemployment is historically low and exports are at record levels totaling $123.2 billion in September, with a 35 percent increase in exports to China so far this year. We need to continue to adopt pro-growth policies that keep taxes low, expand export opportunities and allow U.S. businesses to create jobs and flourish."
