U.S. Commerce Secretary to Visit Czech Republic to Highlight Economic and Commercial Ties Between the Two Countries
WASHINGTON—U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez will travel to Prague, Czech Republic on June 3 to acknowledge the Czech Republic’s commitment to democracy and forge stronger political and economic ties between both countries.
“The Czech Republic will take a significant leadership role in the first half of 2009 as it assumes the presidency of the European Union,” Gutierrez said. “We look forward to further expanding our bilateral commercial activity as well as building a strong foundation to enhance transatlantic cooperation in the months ahead.”
In Prague, Gutierrez will meet with Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek, Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg, and other trade officials to discuss bilateral trade and investment.
U.S.-Czech two-way trade in 2007 totaled $3.7 billion, and U.S. exports to the Czech Republic increased by 12 percent over 2006. The United States is one of the leading foreign investors in the Czech Republic with U.S. businesses investing more than $3 billion in the country.
